Wreckfest Rare Trades Festival

One weekend. A hundred stories. A thousand memories.

Citizens of the district and beyond! Make haste to Flagstaff Hill, where the grand spectacle that is 'Wreckfest Rare Trades Festival' shall awaken thy senses and stir thy very soul. Let the clang of the hammer, the cry of the hawker, and the thunder of the eighty-pound cannon ring out across the green! Witness the gallant Garrison spring to life, their uniforms crisp, their powder dry, as smoke and glory erupt upon the hill.

From thence, the Village shall bustle with the noble labours of old. A most curious sight awaits — a chainsaw sculptor, wielding a contraption the likes of which would make a blacksmith blush, shall carve a mighty Maremma hound from a single tree trunk. Though not of our forefathers’ time, it is a marvel most worthy of attention.

shearers wield their blades with uncanny swiftness; and stone wallers, coopers, and wheelwrights ply their ancient trades with naught but grit and gumption. Behold the rope maker, the wood carver, the knife smith, the whip plaiter, the beekeeper, and the most curious of craftsmen — one who fashions a fly rod from cane, by hand, and without machinery. All of it live. All of it true.

Marvel as rope makers twist fibres into strength, wood carvers coax life from logs, and knife makers forge steel with fire and grit. See leather whip makers plait strands with uncanny precision, meet the beekeepe, and shake your head in wonder as a local craftsman builds a cane fly fishing rod by hand. It’s raw, real, and all happening live.

Step further into the lane of mastery, where the gentler crafts await. Here, thou shalt encounter glassblowers, signwriters, silversmiths, and milliners, each plying their work with steady hand and patient heart. Sample fine cider, observe the printer’s press in motion, admire the dressmakers, felters, and weavers who bring form from fibre. These are the keepers of knowledge passed down through the ages — shared freely, and with pride.

At last, make thy way to the Green, where joy and jollity abound. The young shall delight in model boats, children’s games, and the mirthful antics of the Punch & Judy show. The Tin Shed Singers and Wednesday Whistlers shall raise tunes both hearty and nostalgic, while the humble damper, cooked o’er flame awaits.

And when the day is done — thy boots well dusted, thy belly content, and thy heart cheered — thou shalt know, without doubt or question, that thou has truly been to Wreckfest Rare Trades Festival.
