We invite the South West Victorian Surfing community to come and participate in Surfing Victoria's water safety program: Surfers Rescue 24/7.

Surfers Rescue 24/7 is FREE Board Rescue and CPR course delivered by Surfing Victoria in conjunction with the Victorian Government. It's designed to engage participants with an interactive learning experience and equip them with the education and training to respond to emergencies in open water environments such as the surf.

The course tailored around surfing, comprises of theoretical and practical elements that cover the following topics;

  • Identifying someone in trouble in the water
  • "Rip" Current and Wave Types education
  • Attempting a rescue in the water
  • Board Rescue Techniques
  • Transporting someone out of the water
  • Administering Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Envenomation education

If weather permits on the day of course, participants also practice the Board Rescue and Patient Transport Techniques at a local beach.

The course takes approx. 3 hours (2 hours in the classroom and 1 hour on the beach).

The cost of the program is completely FREE

Participants will need to bring to the course:

  • Wetsuit
  • Towel
  • Surfboard or other board (e.g. Stand Up Paddleboard)
  • Drink Bottle
  • Face Mask

*Please note: Surfing Victoria has COVID safe plan for its programs and has put in the necessary measures to be able to deliver the program safely with little impact on the learning experience. These include: Reduced class sizes; Record keeping; Provision of training equipment for each participant; and Cleaning and sanitary procedures.
However, we please ask if you plan on attending this course and are feeling unwell on the day, please DO NOT ATTEND, go and get tested for COVID-19 or see your doctor and self isolate as soon as possible.

**Please note: Surfing Victoria will also be conducting this course in accordance with State Government health advice as well as the COVID policies of the venue management. These will be communicated through to participants prior to the course and need to strictly adhered to on the day. This may include mandated double vaccination status to be able to participate. This will be communicated to you prior to the commencement of the course.
