Garrison Dress Ups

Dress up in military costume to become a Warrnambool Garrison Artillery Soldier. Button up your coat, tip your pill box hat, select your rifle* and hear all about the origins of the Flagstaff Hill Garrison precinct from Bombardier Leigh. Enjoy a demonstration of the correct way to hold and move your rifle from the Order to the Shoulder, then the Slope positions and pose for photos.

Cooking Up a Storm

Using a traditional recipe, measure, mix and create your very own delicious treats, so irresistible they won’t last long! (Suitable for 5 – 15 year olds. Limited numbers. Book at Reception)

Stella Maris Tea Rooms

Reading, ‘Riting & ‘Rithmatic

Be on your best behaviour as the School Master and his assistant show you how to behave and learn in the 1860’s Common School. Don’t misbehave or the School Master might have to use his cane & you don’t want that! (Suitable for primary age children. Limited numbers. Book at Reception)

Dr Harrisons Sick at Sea

Be prepared to be shocked, surprised and have lots of fun as Flagstaff Hill's very own Apothecary Dr John Harrison takes you on an informative and entertaining journey of sickness at sea.

You will hear all about why a poor diet, lack of hygiene and exposure to disease made passengers so unwell during their journey to Australia by ship.

What he has to tell you will make you wonder how any of the passengers managed to make it through their journey alive!

CRAFT

Hot Off the Press

Design and create a foam printing plate, then take it to the Examiners, where our printer will ink it up and use it to create an original print for you using the historical Albion Press.

As he rolls the ink, positions the plates and pulls the big leaver he will tell you all about the traditional role of the Examiners and what the various printing presses were originally used for.

Flower Pounding Bookmarks

Transfer the natural pigment of flowers and plants onto paper by hammering the two things together. Remove the foliage to reveal a unique colourful image on your bookmark. This would make a very special gift for Mum on Mother’s Day!

Flying Critter Pegs

Use a wooden clothes peg and coloured papers and decorations to create a beautiful butterfly, bat or something from your imagination. Open and close the peg to see your creations wings flap and fly. Then peg them in a special place to decorate your room.

Magi Clay Disc Designs

Using Magi Clay and your imagination design a unique badge, pendant or keyring to wear or hang from your school bag. With a wide variety of colours to choose from there’s no limit to what you can create..

Suffolk Puffs with Dressmaker Pat

Dressmakers in the 1800’s would never let any materials go to waste and they always found a way to repurpose the scraps of their dressmaking fabrics to make something else. Using simple sewing skills and circles of fabric, Pat will teach you how to make Suffolk Puffs and show you some ways in which they were sewn together to create a decorative mat or doll.

Warrnambool Woodworkers – Sail makers Loft

Choose from a wide selection of pre-made, fun and easy woodwork kits for kids to build. With a friendly team of helpers on hand, D.I.Y has never been this much fun.
