Diving Deep into Country

We would like to invite you to an exhibition of sharing, reflection and celebration as first-year Occupational Therapy students come together to share what they have learned through their guided On-Country Experience.

The Diving Deep into Country exhibition is an opportunity for students to share their experiences and reflections with Elders and members of the South-West community, acknowledging the knowledge, stories and connections shared with them through their time on Country.

The On-Country Experience is an important part of the students’ learning as future health practitioners. It encourages them to think deeply about reciprocity and what it means to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through mutual exchange, shared responsibility and learning.

Students from different cohorts participated in an On-Country Experience each year, led by Uncle Rob Lowe in 2024 and 2025, and by Billy Briggs in 2026.

The exhibition will showcase the students’ reflections and creative responses to their experience, providing an opportunity for community to see the impact the day has had on their learning and celebrate the connections and knowledge that have emerged.

We warmly invite Elders, local community, Deakin community members, students and staff to join us for this special sharing back.
