Clearing the Air on Vaping - Information session for parents/carers

Warrnambool City Council

Clearing the Air on Vaping (Information session for parents/carers)

Parents have been identified as a secret weapon in tackling teen vaping. A recent study commissioned by VicHealth has shown that parents and carers hold more power and influence in tackling teen vaping that they might realise.

Come along to this information session to equip yourself with the knowledge and skills to discuss this issue with your teen and help them successfully navigate this serious threat to their health.

The session will feature a presentation from Dr. James Durl (Facilitation Lead & Research Fellow) from the organisation- Blurred Minds (a leading organisation in alcohol and drug education across Australia). The presentation will be followed by an interactive session, providing an opportunity to answer your questions and hear about the issue from the perspective of local representatives from Brophy Youth Services, WRAD Health and local young people.

Topics to be discussed include;

  • Understanding the pressures/ today’s vaping culture & peer influences
  • Recognising the health and environmental risks associated with vaping
  • Strategies to start a conversation with teens and young adults
  • Tips and strategies for preventing vaping among young people
  • How you can support young people who have started vaping- guide to local support services available to assist

Light refreshments will be available before and after the session, in the foyer at the Lighthouse

Children/teens are welcome to accompany parents.

Please note - the information is designed specifically for parents and carers.
